BARTER
Barter is simply trading one thing for another. And, in fact, it doesn't even have to be a thing. It can be a skill, a service, or even information. In a Beyond Peak world, barter could be essential. Currency may have little value, while the value (usefulness, desirability) of certain things could increase dramatically.
Dealing with Beyond Peak isn't about stocking up on stuff. It's about knowledge, and skills, and cooperation. It's about being able to create and produce your own goods, either yourself or within your community. Nevertheless, some stuff is useful, and it doesn't hurt, no matter how good or bad the times, to have available supplies of necessities around the house. Remember that bartering doesn't have to be only a one-on-one relationship. A mutual bartering system can be even more effective at the neighborhood or even community level. Community currency, or systems such as LETS, involves either locally-printed currency or a computerized system to keep track of exchanges.
